floor had to be washed in the middle of the day. That was in the third moon. He asked me if I knew any man who knew the inspector and would request him for permission to wash the floor after business hours, and I asked Mr Lo if he would be good enough to obtain permission to wash the floor after business on Saturday instead of in the middle of the day.
Hon. Mr Hay: Did you go to see him? - No, it happened that he came to my place. You are well acquainted with Mr Lo? - Yes. Then he told me that the inspector permitted me to wash the floor at night.
When did Mr Lo tell you could have permission, was it on another occasion? - Yes.
Then permission was obtained to wash at night instead of in the day? - Yes, it was so washed and I asked Mr Lo if it was necessary to give a present for the inspector and he said "that is for you to say." I asked him if a present of $10 would meet the case and he said "it is enough, quite enough."
Mr Lo came the next or some other night, and I went up to the Yat Heung ten house for $10 and I gave it to Mr Lo to give to the inspector. After the money was paid for three successive weeks I was not bothered at all about washing on Saturdays.
About three weeks afterwards the accountant told me that he was again bothered to wash the floor in day time. I then spoke to Mr Lo, saying the inspector came to bother again. Mr Lo said "I will write him a letter" and then there was no bother about washing for four successive weeks after that, and after these four weeks had elapsed the accountant said he came again to bother about washing in day time, and that was all and I did not have any dealings after that.
